Sunday in St. Louis

I have been looking forward to today because I got to meet an old friend for the first time.  Teresa and I have "known" each other for about 14 years as we are in two on-line groups together.  She lives near St. Louis and since we were going to be in St. Louis on Sunday, I arranged with her to go to church with her family. She graciously prepared a lovely dinner for us after church and we had a nice visit.

We then went back to the hotel and took a nap.  That felt great!  After we got up, we decided to take a walking tour of downtown St. Louis.  I found a self guided map of St. Louis Architecture.  It was really fun.  St. Louis is a beautiful city with lots of old buildings downtown.

This is the Christ Church Cathedral.  It was on narrow streets so we couldn't get a picture of the whole cathedral.  There was a center part that was original and then two sections that looked like they had been added later.

This is the old post office.  It is a very large building.  I'm sure that St. Louis was quite a hub of activity while the west was growing.  I don't know the year the old post office was built but I can imagine it as a center of much activity.

This is the opera house in St. Louis.

This is a small portion of the Veteran's Memorial.  Unfortunately, the park is under renovation and it was all fenced off.  It looked like a nice memorial.

Eileen got a nice shot of the old courthouse dome with the arch in the background.

This building is called The Old Cathedral.  It was built in 1834.  It is the only building that was left when the Gateway Arch park was developed.

It doesn't show up well, but as the sun was setting, the arch appeared to be on fire.  The sun reflected bright red on the shiny metal.  It was quite spectacular.

We stayed in the park for quite a while watching the sun go down and the changes in the color on the arch.  We thought they might turn the lights on when the sun went down.  We finally went and asked inside and they don't turn the lights on until 10:15 pm.  We decided to go back to the hotel and see how we felt at 10:15.  Oh why not!
